Cycling MBC Counselor Information

Looking to becme a Cycling Merit Badge Counselor? Then make sure to attend a Scouting MTB Cycling Merit Badge Counselor training class.

Complete Bike Inspection

Practice Ride

  • Each counselor will go through a practice ride in the assembly area to evaluate each riders skills 

Rider Assessment

  • Rider Assessment Guide

Bike Ride

  • Each counselor will receive an additional evaluation during a required 2-mile bike ride
  • Time permitting an additional 5-mile bike ride will take place.
  • Guides will lead by example and show responsible riding techniques
  • Guides will keep the group informed of upcoming trail information and hazards
  • Reinforce Challenge By Choice
  • Stop frequently to monitor group (head counts)
  • Utilize teachable moments

End of Program, Debrief & Wrap-up

  • Post Ride Maintenance Check and Bike Inspection
  • Discuss the importance of disinfecting your helmet, gloves, pads, and other personal equipment upon returning home
  • Towel off bikes and prepare for next use
  • Inform participants of other mountain biking opportunities and all  skills progressions through the Scouting MTB Advanced  Skills Clinics

Lunch

Each participant will receive a free lunch and refreshment.
